Their seems to be witchcraft afoot, and no one is quite sure where the sinister forces will manifest themselves. As strange happenings start to unsettle the family, they begin to turn suspicious eyes on one another. The specter of potential death hangs over them constantly. Life on the frontier is harsh, and the work is unending. The film follows the family as they are forced to live on their own when they offend the puritanical sensibilities of their fellow villagers. Praised by critics, the film was less well received by horror fans who expected more active scares.
